The CBGP is created with the dual purpose of contributing to the sustainable development of agriculture, forestry and environmental sectors through the Knowledge Based Bio-Economy (KBBE) and to increase the competitiveness of research and production in these areas. Also plays an educational role and pursues to become a reference center for the training of scientists and technicians in the field of biotechnology and plant genomics, an area whose development still has a long road ahead in Spain.
The National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA) is an autonomous Public Research Organisation (OPI) of the State Secretariat of Research, Development and Innovation of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
